SERDANG, 26th November – With the theme The Community as Catalyst for Regional Wellbeing, the first Regional Seminar on Community Issues (SSIK 2019) organized by Institute for Social Science Studies, UPM was held on 26th and 27th November 2019 at Mini Auditorium, Office of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation), UPM Serdang, Selangor. The seminar congregated more than 80 social science researchers from countless field of community issues e.g. Socio economy, politics, ICT, policy and transformation in public sector, environment, tourism and eco-tourism, disaster management, sustainable development, quality of life, history and nationalisms, justice and peace, poverty, education, religion, gender equity, food security, health, extremism as well as culture.
The seminar is officiated by Prof. Dr. Zulkifli Idrus, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) UPM. In the conference, Prof. Dr. Asnarulkhadi Abu Samah IPSAS Director delivered the keynote address with the title “Pembangunan Komuniti: Praktis Mendayaupayakan Komuniti’. With more than 20 years experienced in community development, Dr. Asnarulkhadi is one of the board member of International Association for Community Development (IACD). Above and beyond Dr. Asnarulkhadi, three scholars that delivered keynote address during the seminar include Prof. Dr. Jasman Maaruf, The Reactor of University Teuku Umar, Acheh, Repulic Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Fredolin Tangang from National University of Malaysia, and Prof. Dr. Ramlee Mustafa from Sultan Idris Educational University.
Throughout the opening ceremonial, two significant activities have taken place. Firstly, IPSAS and Fakulti Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik, Unversity Teuku Umar, Acheh have agreed to collaborate on an activities related to research and publication through the exchange of Letter of Intents (LOI). Secondly, the introduction of six edited books authored by IPSAS researchers from research findings and also original publication.
