Institute for Social Science Studies (IPSAS), formerly known as the Institute of Community and Peace Studies (PEKKA) is a social science research-based institute in Universiti Putra Malaysia focusing on youth development and leadership, ICT and social communication, and community development. In line with the Eleventh Malaysia Plan which gives priority to the people’s wellbeing, which has been the research focus of the institute, three laboratories that support the initiative are Youth Wellbeing and Social Health Laboratory, Youth Citizenship and Leadership Laboratory, and Cyber Generation Laboratory.
All the Laboratory Heads, Research Fellows and Research Associates have expertise in various fields in the social sciences. The Institute believes that the advancement in the social sciences should be multidisciplinary in its approach. Hence, Research Associates are from various faculties at the university. The Institute provides consultancy, community services and research-related training. IPSAS also collaborates with local government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and international bodies including universities. The collaborations are in the form of research activities, consultation and seminar.
The institute also provides post graduate studies (Master and Doctor of Philosophy) in four major fields; Youth Studies, Leadership Studies, Rural Advancement, and Community Education & Development. Post graduate students at IPSAS are from various professions local and international.
