On 25 June 2024, the Green Sustainability Committee of the Institute of Social Science Studies (IPSAS), UPM, in collaboration with the Sepang Municipal Council and the Centre for Management of Waqf, Zakat and Endowment (WAZAN), UPM successfully organized the 2024 Collection and Leisure Programme (KUDAH) at Bagan Lalang Beach, Sepang Selangor. A total of 11 staff including from IPSAS and 25 UPM students were also involved in this programme.
This initiative was founded by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haliza Abdul Rahman, Head of the Youth Laboratory in Leadership, Politics and Citizenship, IPSAS, UPM, as the Chairman of the IPSAS Green Sustainability Committee. The program began with a welcome speech from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haliza Abdul Rahman and a light exercise session led by a student, Amir Haikal Bin Kamarudin. Among the most cited garbage include cigarette butts, plastic beverages, polystyrene food containers and beverage cans. The amount of garbage collected was about 180kg and was separated for proper disposal by the Municipal Council. This joint effort provides space to reflect on the relationship between humans and the environment, especially the beach.
Even through simple actions such as garbage collection, we understand the value of appreciation and responsibility to keep the earth clean. Each piece of garbage collected conveys a deep meaning – that we are all guardians of the universe. We at UPM welcome the efforts and support of any corporate agency in an effort to restore the beauty of the beach and the environment. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who has given a high commitment to make this program a success. With the continuous collaboration between IPSAS, Sepang Municipal Council and WAZAN, UPM is confident that this programme will greatly benefit all parties involved.
