COLLABORATION NETWORK FOR INDUSTRIAL PROJECT ON FOREST CONSERVATION

29 July 2023 - Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd. in collaboration with the Institute for Social Science Studies (IPSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), together with the Industry Relations and Networking Center (CiRNeT) and Sultan Idris Shah Forest Education Center (SISFEC), has successfully organized the "Exploration Planting Tomorrow Program 2023." The program was attended by more than 65 employees from Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd. at Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve, SISFEC, UPM.

This program is an initiative by Associate Professor Dr. Haliza Abdul Rahman, Head of Youth Leadership, Politics, and Citizenship Laboratory, IPSAS, UPM, as the Program Director.

A total of 200 tree saplings were planted from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. The participants were provided with seven (7) suitable types of forest trees to plant, which are Merbau, Meranti Melantai, Kempas, Rambai Jentik-Jentik, Kelat (Syzygium dyerianum), and Sentul (Sandoricum Beccarianum). The selection of these trees was based on their suitability in terms of soil retention, water absorption, and size when fully grown.

As the initial step towards environmental conservation and forest sustainability, this program also aims to foster awareness among the participants about the importance of biodiversity and the need to actively participate in environmental conservation efforts.

Indeed, this is an opportunity to be proud of in the joint effort to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG3 (Health and Wellbeing), SDG11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG13 (Climate Action), and SDG15 (Life on Land). This initiative will contribute towards a greener and more sustainable future for the Earth and its inhabitants.

UPM welcomes the efforts and involvement of government-linked companies (GLCs) such as Petronas in supporting the National Agenda of the country through the "Planting 100 Million Trees Campaign" towards the year 2025. With this collaboration between Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd and Universiti Putra Malaysia, both parties believe that this program will bring significant benefits to all stakeholders.
