The Institute for Social Science Studies (IPSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) conducted an official visit to the People’s Republic of China from 8 to 14 June 2025. The delegation consisted of three IPSAS representatives: Prof. Dr. Haslinda Abdullah (Director of IPSAS), Dr. Jeffrey Lawrence D’Silva (Deputy Dorector of IPSAS), and Associate Professor Dr. Haliza Abdul Rahman (Head of Laboratory Youth in Leadership, Politics and Citizenship). 

The primary aim of the visit was to promote IPSAS and UPM to several renowned universities in China, while strengthening collaborative efforts in social science research and education.

The delegation began their journey in the historic city of Xi’an, visiting Xi’an International University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, and Xianyang Normal University. The next stop was Dalian, where they engaged with Dalian University, before concluding their visit in Beijing with fruitful sessions at Peking University and Renmin University of China.

Throughout the visit, several engagement sessions were held with academic and administrative representatives from the respective universities. A key highlight was a lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Haslinda Abdullah entitled “Youth Mental Health in Malaysia and China,” which garnered great interest from both faculty and students.

This visit has opened doors to strategic partnerships between IPSAS-UPM and higher education institutions in China, in line with UPM’s internationalisation agenda in the field of social sciences and youth development.
