Youth Leadership In Volunteering The Main Agenda In National Youth Development

upupmYouth leadership in volunteerism is the main agenda in the development of the country's youth especially the vulnerable for sustainable future leadership. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Prof. Dr. Ismi Arif Ismail said, giving the youth the space to lead and make decisions on volunteerism, can strengthen them in creating positive change. "Youth leaders serve as a link between different generations and can help to be a link between the older generation and the aspirations and needs of the younger generation," he said. He added that through volunteering, youths have the power to be a catalyst for social change as well as championing certain positive social goals among their peers. "This can directly foster leadership roles to youth as well as organisational management and develop strategies to achieve outcomes that benefit their personal development," he said. 

Institute of Social Science Studies (IPSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), organized Expert Conference Series 1/2023 entitled Youth Leadership in Volunteerism in the New Era: Supporting the Vulnerable. 

Director of IPSAS and the first panelist, Prof. Dr. Haslinda Abdullah said the Series 1 debated on the topic of  youth leadership in volunteerism in support of the vulnerable is expected to explore a new narrative in the field of youth leadership and volunteerism in. "The important content of this expert conference will trace the changes that are taking place in the community on the subject of discussion and adopt effective strategies in managing those changes," she said. This expert conference will trace the changes taking place in the community on the subject of discussion as well as adopt effective strategies in managing the changes. "The 10-series planned expert conference will feature a panel of experts in the field of youth and community development and be conducted in the form of a roundtable discussion involving the cooperation of stakeholders". 

 The expert conference was attended by the Head of Skilled Youth Project, National Organisation of Skilled Workers, Mohammad Rizan Hassan as the 2nd panellist and the conference was moderated by Adjunct Fellow of IPSAS, UPM. Dato' Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamarudin.
